Poetry with light

Forever Images uses “Poetry with light” as its subtitle or tagline. This tagline describes how you can recognize Forever Images photography. It consists of two halves, “poetry” and “with light”. Together they represent what makes Forever Images unique.

Why “Poetry”?

A poet uses the properties of language to convey more than the meaning of the literal words. A line in a poem is also referred to as a verse rather than a sentence. A poem describes more than what the text appears to say. It contains a symbolism, story, feeling or suggestion that is artistically captured in a literary work, the artwork. It invites the reader or listener to interpret the poem. Traveling between the different layers of possible meanings.

Why "with Light"?

Scientifically, light can also be described as an electromagnetic radiation in the frequency range that is visible to the human eye. Thanks to light we are able to see. We photographers use it to take photos. We catch it, nowadays more and more with a digital sensor, and use the electronically recorded data to create the photo.

What do I mean with the tagline “Poetry with light”?

With Forever Images I offer photography. I do this as portrait photographer, fashion photographer en wedding photographer. My style is consistent in both my photos and how I work. I think it is important that my photos are easily recognizable because of my style. It is the common thread through my work. For a while I was looking for how I could describe my style, the core of what I am doing. To succinctly clarify why I see my work as unique. In addition to being a photographer, I am also a business analyst. As a business analyst I am used to dividing an apparently simple but in reality complex question into different aspects.

The primary aspect is Photography. Photography can be described as “writing with light”. Like a poet uses words to express an idea, feeling or story, I use light. When I photograph I do more than just capturing what can be seen. Which brings me to the next aspect. With my photography I capture abstract concepts in an artistic way. Abstraction concepts like feelings, ideas and stories. I use light to capture these concepts. For me, this is beautifully expressed with the tagline “poetry with light”.

Authentic and subtle

The authenticity is what makes a photo artistic in my eyes. “To be real”, more than just what can be seen at first glance. When I shoot I want to create unique and elegant photos. The uniqueness and recognisability of my work makes me consider it art and not just a visual registration of something that is visible. This applies to my portrait photos, fashion photos and wedding photos. Within all these categories, I love the black and white photos the most. Black and White Photography

With black and white photography, B&W photography, I can put more focus on the essence of the photo. The lines within the photo can be given a more powerful and active role with creating a different dynamic between, for example, the model and the environment. The interaction between the model and the light becomes more explicit, more strongly bringing out the mood of the photo. Subtle aspects of the model are also more prominent. The photo raises more and different questions. Questions such as "what is she thinking about?" or "what's happening?".

Low Key Photography

Basically, a low key photo is an overall dark photo with some parts highlighted. They are also called film noir photos. They are high contrast photos. The dark parts can be black, other dark tones or shadows. low key photography is often combined with B&W photography. But al low key photo can perfectly by a color photo.
